Indigenous Artistry Video Series

Press play on this video series capturing the beauty of Indigenous artistry from beading and quillwork to tufting and fish scale art .

Watch as hands carefully sew glass beads to smoked hide. Porcupine quills are soaked and flattened. Moose and caribou fur is stitched and trimmed into perfectly rounded tufts. Fish scales are intricately arranged, laying carefully one on top of another. All four videos in the series feature the hands and teachings shared by Coral Madge, our Steward, Indigenous Collections.

Quillwork

Oh, that’s sharp! Porcupine quillwork involves great care, transforming sharp quills into intricate, colourful designs.

Beading

Tufting

Fish Scale Art

Fish scales can be intricately arranged, laying carefully one on top of another to create a masterpiece.
